Start to finish, in the order it happens. It's about an hour on a straightforward system, longer if we find something worth showing you.
As a furnace ages, the metal separating combustion gases from your indoor air develops stress cracks. When that happens, exhaust that should be going up the flue gets pushed into the house instead. Carbon monoxide is invisible and doesn't smell like anything, so a detector and an annual inspection are the only two things standing between a cracked exchanger and a serious problem.
Every furnace we service gets this check, on a tune up or a repair call, whether or not you asked for it.
