Usually one day, and far less mess than people expect
An indoor head mounts high on an exterior wall. The outdoor condenser sits on a pad or a wall bracket outside. Between them runs a line set carrying refrigerant, power and condensate, through a hole about three inches across.
That's the extent of it. No ripping open ceilings, no chasing duct runs through a crawlspace, no losing a closet to an air handler. Most single zone installs are done inside a day.
The part that separates a good install from a bad one is the part nobody looks at: line sets run straight and properly secured, condensate pitched so it drains, and the condenser set level on something that won't sink in the spring.

Mini split questions, answered straight
It depends on the size of the space, how far the outdoor unit sits from the indoor head and how many zones you want. A single zone garage install and a four zone whole house system are very different numbers. We quote the complete job, equipment and labor together, before any work starts, and the estimate is free.
Modern inverter driven units do, yes. They're heat pumps, and current cold climate models keep producing usable heat well below freezing. That's a real change from the older units people remember struggling with. For a space you rely on during a hard cold snap, we'll talk through backup heat rather than overpromise.

No. The indoor head is quieter than a refrigerator, and the outdoor condenser is quieter than a traditional AC unit.

It will work, but it'll work harder and cost more to run. If the budget allows, insulating first and sizing the unit afterward gets you a smaller system and a lower bill. We'll tell you that up front rather than sell you a bigger unit to fight the heat loss.
